Slow seasons - Autumn on Dartmoor

I love Autumn. You may have noticed that if you follow me on instagram. I can’t help taking pictures of the incredible colours, the magical webs created overnight and the beautiful seed-heads preparing for Spring.

I find Summer unpredictable, with an overly optimistic sense of expectation. Autumn, on the other hand, seems always to deliver.

I think it’s why I also love the November retreats, held up here on the edge of Dartmoor. The bracken turns an incredible colour - sort of rusty orange - a bit how I like to imagine the beards of Vikings. When we get outside at the Autumn retreat, it’s usually a bit windy, so there are coats and hats. It’s cosy and fun to prepare for an adventure together. Sometimes we tale a flask of hot chocolate out under the stars - the skies are very dark here, and we can even see the Milky Way.

Sunrise over Dartmoor in Autumn

I walked with friends early yesterday morning. We saw the sunrise over the fields of the South Hams. The cows watched us lazily from their bracken beds. It was glorious.

Our November retreat will be a gentle, reminder that life can be good, and that in any season there is something to be discovered. It’s for you if you are feeling lost or stuck and need a spark of new energy to lift you forward into the next phase of your life.
